May 20 Wednesday
As communities across the country face mounting water scarcity, Erie sits atop one of the world's largest freshwater reserves. Penn State Behrend's Black School of Business will host a public panel discussion taking up a question regional leaders say is long overdue: Is Erie doing enough to turn that water advantage into economic opportunity? The event, titled "Erie's Water Advantage: How Freshwater Can Power Jobs, Industry, and Regional Renewal," will bring together experts in water infrastructure, economics, and business development for a 70-minute conversation open to community members, students, faculty, and civic and industry leaders. Moderator Eric Brotherson, Business Intelligence and Analytics Manager at Erie Federal Credit Union, will guide panelists through Erie's water capacity, its economic implications, and the practical steps the region could take to compete more effectively for investment and jobs.Featured PanelistsCraig PalmerCEO, Erie Water Works — water system capacity, reliability, and infrastructure.Willem BuiterIndependent Economic Advisor — freshwater as a regional economic asset, water rights and allocation, and broader economic trends.Chris GronerDirector of Administration, Erie County — regional assets, economic attraction, site selection, and growth.
Can’t Decide what to read? Let the cards choose for you!
Welcome to the In the Cards Book Club, where every read is guided by fate. At each meeting, we’ll discuss a book inspired by a card drawn from the deck. One card might challenge you to read a book with a yellow cover, while another could send you searching for the most popular book from the year you were born. Whatever the card reveals: that’s the book! We will all use the same card, but read different books.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each month (excluding November and December).
This month, we will be reading books set in your favorite city.
The fate of your next read is all in the cards. Will you draw yours?
Can't make the book club, but still looking for something to read? Listen to the librarian's librarian, Nancy Pearl, and read Book Lust. It gives you a book to read for every mood!
Registration is required.

Join Edinboro Area Historical Society for an outdoor exploration of their 19th century courtyard garden at the Doucette House Museum. Learn why garden placement mattered, how plants were commonly used at the time, and what ingredients typically hailed from the 1861 potager garden.
Carol Klonicki, the society's registrar/curator is a Master Gardener and will explain the importance of each of the plants in the courtyard garden. Herb/vegetable gardens traditionally were close to the house so family members (mostly the women) could quickly and easily select and pick herbs that were used to cure the sick and/or flavor the foods that were being cooked. Many plants had double uses. The program is free and open to the public.
Participants should dress appropriately for weather and physical activity.
Registration is required as space is limited.
Meet at: 126 Water Street, Edinboro, PA 16412 at the intersection of Water and West Normal Streets.
