WQLN PBS STREAM Machine
The WQLN PBS STREAM Machine—nationally recognized at the NETA Public Media Awards, where it received honors for Best Education Event—brings hands-on learning directly into your community. Each visit features curated STREAM kits filled with two engaging books, trusted PBS KIDS resources, and interactive activities designed for families to do together at home.
Rooted in science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and math, the program creates meaningful learning experiences that spark curiosity and encourage exploration for both children and caregivers.
By transforming parking lots, playgrounds, community centers, and local events into vibrant outdoor classrooms, the STREAM Machine makes learning accessible wherever families gather. These highly engaging lessons use the PBS Ready to Learn (RTL) Learning Triangle method— an evidence-based framework that integrates three complementary experiences—View, Read, and Do—to strengthen the way children learn.
Children begin by engaging with educational media (PBS KIDS) that introduces key concepts in a way that is both compelling and easy to remember. Then they read related books and materials that reinforce vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking. Finally, they do hands-on activities that allow them to apply what they have learned through exploration and problem-solving. This intentional layering of media, literacy, and experiential learning supports different learning styles, deepens understanding, and helps children make lasting connections between ideas and real-world experiences.
