Learn how to use the Idea Lab's laser cutter and engraver, the Glowforge! In this class you will learn how to safely operate the machine, where to find designs and how to use the online Glowforge App. Everyone will also get a chance to make a small keychain to take with them. After taking this class, you are certified to reserve and use the Glowforge independently when the Idea Lab is open. Registration is required. This class requires basic computer skills.
If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee entry to the class. We often have a waitlist; your spot can be given away if you do not arrive at the scheduled time.

Join local maker Karen S. to learn how to make a basic zipper pouch with a sewing machine. You will learn how to cut a pattern, assemble the fabric, and sew everything together with the machine. This is a beginner level sewing class.
Free. Ages 13 to Adult. Registration required. Class will take place in the Blasco Library's Community Classroom. If you think you will need additional help with this project, please bring a support person to this class.

Learn how to sharpen your kitchen knives from local woodworker Ken Bownes!
In this class you'll learn about the mechanics of knife sharpening, then put your knowledge to the test by using a whetstone to sharpen your own kitchen knife. Participants are invited to bring one kitchen knife per person to this class to sharpen. Only straight-edged kitchen knives will work for this class - no serrated knives, please. This program is for adults ages 18+ only.
All attendees are required to wrap up their knives and store them in a bag when bringing them into the library building. Remember that transporting knives can be dangerous if done improperly, so please be safe when bringing in knives for class. If you're not sure how to safely store your knife for transportation, please watch this video for help. Participants attempting to carry unprotected knives into the library may be asked to leave the building.
Free. Ages 18+ only. Registration is required. This class will take place in the Blasco Library's community classroom.

In this session, participants will learn how to articulate their values to themselves and others.
In addition, you will learn how to research your target salary, highlight your accomplishments, and find the right words to negotiate for better benefits and pay. Participants will be empowered with a renewed sense of confidence and gain skills to advocate for themselves in the workplace. The session also addresses the gender pay gap and ways in which to eliminate it but participants of any gender would benefit from attending.
