WQLN Community Book Nooks

WQLN is enhancing the literacy landscape for children in marginalized communities by installing Book Nooks in local community centers. These nooks are filled with PBS KIDS books and titles celebrating diversity, targeting children aged two to eight.

Elevating Communities Through Literacy
The Book Nook initiative offers high-quality resources to ensure every child has access to enriching literary experiences. These cozy spaces are equipped with comfy seating, ample shelving, a whiteboard, and in some locations, a flat-screen TV (to access the WQLN PBS KIDS 24/7 channel), creating an inviting environment that encourages reading and learning. Children can also take books home to build their libraries.

Wash & Learn is Literacy on the Go
WQLN’s Wash & Learn program transforms spaces inside urban laundromats into informal "pop-up libraries." These areas provide high-quality literacy resources to children while their parents do laundry. Since laundromats are open almost around the clock, they serve as an accessible educational resource for families, especially for parents working non-traditional hours who can't use regular library services.

Through these initiatives, WQLN is making a significant impact on children’s literacy, fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning.
