Stop into the Idea Lab between 10:00am and 12:00pm every Friday in October to make a creepy Halloween decoration and turn your home into a spooky mansion.
This Friday, we'll be making laser-cut accessories that you can add to a jack-o'-lantern! Choose from a few pre-selected designs, cut them out using the Glowforge laser cutter and engraver, and color them however you like. Then take them home and poke the pointed ends into your pumpkin to give it bat wings, horns, extra eyeballs, or another spooky look! Pumpkins will not be provided at this program.
Free. One craft per person. Project available while supplies last.
Registration is recommended but not required. Drop-ins are welcome, but if you register ahead of time you will receive a reminder email the day before the event.
Ages 7 and up. All children must be supervised by a guardian. If you think that you will need extra assistance to complete this project, please bring a support person to assist you.

Make room in your family’s schedule for an intergenerational book club! How does it work? Adults and children read different books with similar themes. Everyone meets up at the library for separate book discussions. Parents get some “grown up time” while their kids chat with new friends. Then, the whole group comes back together for more conversation, snacks, and fun activities!
Each household must register at least one adult and one child and will receive one free copy of each book. Register at events.erielibrary.org by October 10th. This month, we’ll be making DIY nightlights to chase the nightmares away after adults read Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman (inspiration for the upcoming horror film “Other Mommy”) and kids explore The Nest by Kenneth Oppel.

Book Info:
In The Cask of Amontillado, a man exacts revenge on a disloyal friend at carnival, luring him into catacombs below the city. In The Masque of the Red Death, a prince shielding himself from plague hosts a doomed party inside his abbey stronghold. A prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition, faced with a swinging blade and swarming rats, can't see his tormentors in The Pit and the Pendulum, and in The Tell-Tale Heart, a milky eye and a deafening heartbeat reveal the effects of conscience and creeping madness. Alongside these tales are visual interpretations of three poems — The Raven, The Bells, and Poe's poignant elegy to lost love, Annabel Lee.
