WQLN PBS NPR is proud to announce that its STREAM Machine program has been recognized with a prestigious award in the "Learning Events" category at the 56th Public Media Awards, held on Sunday, Sept. 15, in Pittsburgh.

The Public Media Awards, presented by the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA), honor outstanding achievements in public media across various categories, including community engagement, content, education, and marketing. The "Learning Events" category specifically recognizes exceptional educational experiences that immerse teachers or students in hands-on learning. WQLN’s STREAM Machine was celebrated for its remarkable impact on children and educational communities.

Since its inception, the STREAM Machine has served 4,711 children across 114 classroom sessions, distributed 4,619 STREAM kits, and partnered with 34 community organizations. Additionally, the program has distributed an impressive 8,350 books to inspire young minds. Through immersive, hands-on learning experiences, the STREAM Machine has brought Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STREAM) education to the forefront in our community, making a lasting impact on the lives of students and educators alike.

"We are deeply humbled to receive a PMA56 Public Media Award presented by NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association) for the WQLN PBS STREAM Machine program," says Director of Educational Services, Kathy Woodard. "This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our education team, including the enthusiasm of thousands of young learners we have served since the programs launch in 2022."

It is exciting that this innovative program has been acknowledged at a national level, and it is a privilege to get to see this program in action among the wonderful families, schools, libraries, and community centers that make up our vibrant Erie community.
