STREAM Machine Summer: Big Fun for Curious Kids!

This summer, the STREAM Team had fun traveling across Erie County in the STREAM Machine, bringing outdoor (and sometimes indoor!) classrooms to children aged 4–8. Every stop was filled with laughter, curiosity, and hands-on learning!

In June, kids blasted off into space with PBS KIDS Ready Jet Go! as they explored the planets in our solar system. During one lively activity, children teamed up to guess whether surprising facts about each planet were true or false—turning science into a playful game.

July brought out everyone’s inner scientist as children discovered what makes an insect an insect. Armed with magnifying glasses, they leaned in close to examine real specimens—like the rose chafer beetle and the lychee stink bug—making science both up-close and exciting!

The summer wrapped up with lots of giggles during a lesson on measurement. Kids enjoyed a silly episode of PBS KIDS Peg + Cat, where Peg used Cat as a nonstandard measuring tool. The laughter and learning went hand in hand as children practiced measuring in creative ways.

Every lesson this summer showed that learning doesn’t just teach us new things, it’s an adventure filled with fun, discovery, and joy!
