Join Edinboro Area Historical Society for an outdoor exploration of their 19th century courtyard garden at the Doucette House Museum. Learn why garden placement mattered, how plants were commonly used at the time, and what ingredients typically hailed from the 1861 potager garden.
Carol Klonicki, the society's registrar/curator is a Master Gardener and will explain the importance of each of the plants in the courtyard garden. Herb/vegetable gardens traditionally were close to the house so family members (mostly the women) could quickly and easily select and pick herbs that were used to cure the sick and/or flavor the foods that were being cooked. Many plants had double uses. The program is free and open to the public.
Participants should dress appropriately for weather and physical activity.
Registration is required as space is limited.
Meet at: 126 Water Street, Edinboro, PA 16412 at the intersection of Water and West Normal Streets.
