Nikole Hannah-Jones: Why Backlash Over Daughter’s Schooling Misses the Point

Season 2026 Episode 9001 | 18m 23s

Journalist and 1619 Project founder Nikole Hannah-Jones has spent her career reporting on inequality. She and her husband enrolled daughter Najya in a segregated Brooklyn elementary school, a decision she wrote about in The New York Times Magazine. At 12, Najya confronted them about its cost to her education. Now a young adult, Najya reflects on the choice with her mother.
