WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On December 18th of that year, a violent explosion at the Marine Bank Drive Thru at 38th and Popular seriously injured three female employees. Three days later, investigations identified the cause as a broken underground gas line.
This Day in History is presented by WQLN’s Emmy-nominated weekly history series Chronicles. Available on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
