Israeli-American Chef Shares New Book of Rescued Recipes from WWII

Season 2026 Episode 8258 | 17m 58s

Food can be a vessel for memory. Chef Alon Shaya’s cookbook, "Memories of a Good Meal," tells the stories of Jewish Holocaust survivors, Navajo Code Talkers, Japanese Americans held in internment camps, and more. Shaya pairs their experiences with recipes that evoke memories of family and identity. He joins Walter Isaacson to discuss how recipes can preserve history and stories of resilience.
