WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On September 1st of that year, Dr Robert Sweeney, of the Great Lakes Laboratory at Buffalo State declared Lake Erie a “Dead” lake - unless municipalities stopped dumping city sewage and agricultural phosphates into it.
