WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 1st of that year, Pennsylvania’s new fiscal year began without a budget. Thousands of state employees and welfare recipients would go unpaid until the state legislature finally agreed to a budget on July 12, 1973.
This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
