April 6, 2023 | April 6, 1973

WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973, and on April 6th of that year – the Kingdoc II loaded with 200,000 bushels of rye from the Erie Grain Elevators - made sail as the first lake freighter to leave Port Erie for the new shipping season.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, showing Lake Erie, Our Kin Part 1 this tonight on WQLN PBS.
