WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973, and on April 5th of that year – Erie was selected as one of five Pennsylvania cities to host the governor’s commission on capital punishment. In the wake of the 1972 Supreme Court decision on capital punishment – every US state was required to review its death penalty laws and policies.
