WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On December 14th of that year, 400 members of the Citizen Action Committee for Education protested the firing of Erie Public School Superintendent Robert LaPenna. The firing was a political move by the school board to end LaPenna’s progressive reforms.

This Day in History is presented by WQLN’s Emmy-nominated weekly history series Chronicles. Available on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
