WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On December 6th of that year, the national touring company of the bicentennial play “By George” became stranded in Erie due to the refusal of the Pennsylvania Bicentinanal Committee to cover their expenses. The eleven actors would remain stranded in Erie for seven weeks until the matter could be resolved.

This Day in History is presented by WQLN’s Emmy-nominated weekly history series Chronicles. Available on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
