WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On November 20th of that year, a Federal Grand Jury indicted 22 people from Erie and Erie County for their roles in a gambling and organized crime ring. As US Attorney Richard Thornburg was reading the names of the twenty-two to reporters, FBI agents conducted county-wide raids arresting the accused.
This Day in History is presented by WQLN’s Emmy-nominated weekly history series Chronicles. Available on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
