WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On November 17th of that year, Senator Hugh Scott announced he had secured Amtrak rail passenger service for Erie - through a provision of the law that formed Amtrack, stating that the new agency had to offer experimental service to underserved communities.

This Day in History is presented by WQLN’s Emmy-nominated weekly history series Chronicles. Available on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
