WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On November 5th of that year, Erieite Fred Magel (rhymes with bagel) ordered lunch at the Twelfth and Sassafras Streets McDonalds. This meal was significant in that it was Magel’s 36,557th consecutive restaurant meal and the one that got him listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles, airing Lake Science, followed by Field Work this Thursday night on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
