WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On October 30th of that year, retired US Navy Admiral Edwin Hooper sent a critical letter to Erie Niagara Museum Program Supervisor Russell McLaughlin. Hooper was concerned about the appearance of the decaying, dry-docked historical vessel.

This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles. We return to Port Erie, this Thursday night on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
