WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On October 25th of that year, Erie Skydivers Ralph Urmann, Buzzy Cannalis, and Bob McClintock demonstrated how Erie’s recent plague of UFO sightings might have been staged. Using lights, smoke, and flares, the trio performed a 7,000-foot jump into Harborcreek High School stadium.

This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles. The new season begins tomorrow night, on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
