WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On October 19th of that year, Millcreek Township moms used their bodies to block semi-trucks, short-cutting their way from an unfinished I-79 to Twelfth Street. One truck ran a protester over when it broke through the human blockade.

This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles. The new season begins Thursday October 26 on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
