WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On October 16th of that year, General Telephone began installing single-slot pay telephones in and around Erie. The new phones accepted nickels, dimes, and quarters but rejected foreign coins, slugs, and washers.
This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles. The new season begins Thursday October 26 on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
