WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On October 4th of that year, Pennsylvania Governor Milton Shapp proposed adding an additional hour to Daylight Savings Time to ease the state’s heating oil shortage.

This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles. The new season begins Thursday October 26 on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
