Iconic Erie—Landmark: Erie's Bicentennial Tower Screening & Discussion

Iconic Erie—Landmark: Erie's Bicentennial Tower Screening & Discussion

Watch Landmark: Erie's Bicentennial Tower on the big screen! Erie’s iconic Bicentennial Tower almost did not happen. But the tower project’s backers, planners, architects, engineers, construction workers, and others overcame hurdles – in record time – to erect what now stands as a symbol of pride and possibility for a true gem of a city. Run time 47:35

Iconic America: Our Symbols and Stories with David Rubenstein is a new eight-episode series premiering this spring on WQLN PBS. We'll show excerpts from this series that explores American history through an examination of iconic symbols like The Hollywood Sign, Gadsden Flag, and Fenway Park. Rubenstein invites local experts and community members to examine how Americans engage with each of these icons, offering viewers a new perspective on how we tell – and retell – our American story. Run time 23:53

To finish our evening, a panel discussion will be centered around the idea of "icons" -- What makes something iconic? How do icons connect us? What makes Erie iconic? Moderator: Andy Roth, Jefferson Educational Society. Panelists: Joyce Savocchio, Former Mayor of Erie; Lou Richards, Landmark Producer & Director; Courtney Baran, Courtney Baran Historical Consulting.

Doors open at 6:00 with light refreshments in the H.O. Hirt Auditorium lobby.

Presented in partnership with Erie County Public Library, Jefferson Educational Society, and Courtney Baran Historical Consulting.

Funding for Iconic America: Our Symbols and Stories with David Rubenstein is provided by The Zohar Ben-Dov Family through the Luminescence Foundation.
