WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On August 24th of that year, Erie dentist Bob Shupala became an investor in the Cleveland Indians Baseball Cub. Dr. Shupala was only the second investor in the club to live outside of Ohio. The other non-Ohioian was Bob Hope.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
