WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On August 22nd of that year, a train traveling from Chicago to New York derailed just west of the Powell Avenue Bridge. The train was carrying TV sets, water heaters, and food. Millcreek and State police provided around-the-clock security to prevent looting.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
