WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On August 21st of that year, ex-boxer and District Justice Jimmy Hogan was shot and killed by robbers at the Czartoryski (car tore ski) Café at 301 Parade St. Hogan attacked the robbers with both his chair and fists. During the melee, he shouted, “You’re not going to get anything from here.”

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
