WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On August 8th of that year, The United States Coast Guard and the City of Erie Police were called to the Public Dock to investigate the appearance of a trash dumpster and a 55-gallon steel drum floating in the east basin of the Presque Isle Bay.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
