WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On August 1st of that year, Frank and Delores Brown described a night of terror to Erie Times reporter Dick Deckert. The Browns abandoned their burning boat about a mile offshore on Lake Erie. Along with their twelve-year-old daughter, they had to tread water for just over two hours until help arrived.
This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
