WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 29th of that year, Millcreek supervisor Paul Martin demanded a federal probe behind the US Coast Guard’s delayed rescue of a Millcreek family whose boat exploded on Lake Erie. The family of four had to float for nearly five hours on debris and life vests before help arrived.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
