WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 19th of that year, archaeologists from Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum and the Pennsylvania Historical Commission began a dig in Lake City, where Penelec planned to build a power plant. The site was rumored to have been an encampment of Erielhonan (Erie el holan) Indians.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
