WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 17th of that year, daily water shortages in high-elevation sections of Erie and Millcreek Township became severe. The cause was prolonged dry weather and sprinkler users who lived north of Erie’s nineteenth street.
This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
