WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 11th of that year, retired Admiral Charles Curtz sailed his two-masted forty-three foot sailboat, the Thule, into the Erie Yacht Club. Curtz designed and built the ship and had just completed a trans-Atlantic crossing.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
