WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 7th of that year, Harborcreek native and astronaut Paul Weitz could easily see Erie County from his perch 240 miles up in Skylab. He said, on an open international microphone, that he could see darker, polluted water flowing from Presque Isle Bay into Lake Erie.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
