WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On July 5th of that year, Ray Vogel of West 23rd Street made front-page news by winning the $50,000 jackpot from the State Lottery. The equivalent in today’s dollars is almost $342,000.
This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, nominated for seven Emmy awards, and available online at WQLN.org and on the PBS app Passport.
