WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On May 30th of that year, a fire at the just-completed new General Mclane High School caused $150,000 in damage. The blaze was contained, but the extensive smoke damage closed the school until the start of the 1973 school year.
This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, which is available online at WQLN.org and on PBS Passport.
