WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On May 19th of that year, citing a 95% reduction in annual raw sewage pumped into Presque Isle Bay, Gerald Allender, the Director of Sanitary Engineering for the Erie County Health Department, predicted a swimmable bay sometime in his lifetime.
