WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On May 15th of that year, facing the closure of seven inner-city schools, the Erie School District and the Pennsylvania Department of Education announced plans to convert the old Sears building at Tenth and French into an open classroom for K through fourth-grade classrooms.
This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, which is available online at WQLN.org and on PBS Passport.
