WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973, and on April 9th of that year – Erie Mayor Louis Tullio announced he would seek state funding for an 8,000-seat downtown Civic Center. This announcement may have been a response to the new construction of Erie County’s new sports arena being built at Interstate 90 and Route 8.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, showing Lake Erie, Our Kin Part 2 this Thursday night on WQLN PBS.
