WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973, and on March 20th of that year – United Mine Workers president Tony Boyle came to Erie to testify in the Joseph Yablonsky murder trial. Boyle admitted he transferred $20,000 of UMW funds – but the transfer went to the district office in Kansas – and was not used to pay hitmen to murder the Yablonsky family.

This Day in History is presented by Chronicles, which is available online at WQLN.org and on PBS Passport.
