WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973, and on February 16th of that year – the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources fined Interlake Inc, of Erie for causing pollution in excess of state standards. Interlake was a coke-producing plant on Erie’s Bayfront.
