John Coltrane: Both Directions at Once by Abdullah "Bigg Wash" Washington

Stephen Trohoske once asked me
What I thought about Trane.
I just told them what I learned from
Sir Kahil El Zabar:

One Trane headed West from Harlem,
While one Trane headed to the East.

To know Trane’s position
Is to be ignorant of Trane’s velocity.
To know Trane’s velocity
Is to be blind to Trane’s position.

And though it is impossible for two Tranes
To occupy the exact same space at the exact same time,
He’s Never lost his rhythm.
