WQLN NPR first signed on the air in 1973. On November 11th of that year, Erie’s historic Saint Michael’s Church was destroyed by fire. Fire Chief George Hamburger was the only recorded injury when he fell on the ice separating his shoulder. Hamburger was treated and released at Saint Vincent’s Hospital.

This Day in History is presented by the Emmy-nominated history series Chronicles, airing Secrets of the Abyss, followed by Mother-In-Law of the US Navy next Thursday night on WQLN PBS and on our TV app - Passport.
