Chronicles :: Associate Producer (Full Time)

Summary

The Associate Producer will assist the Executive Producer and Series Producer and serve a key role in bringing the new WQLN docuseries - “Chronicles” - to broadcast. The Associate Producer will assist on many of the episodes of the series that are handled within house at WQLN. They will also help to facilitate and coordinate with the episodes that are being produced by outside freelance producers. A principal responsibility of the Associate Producer will be to make sure that footage once shot is properly labeled and organized and will help begin to create an assembled edit of episodes. Also, the Associate Producer will be expected to adhere to the workflow of the production for the episodes they are involved with.

There will be an opportunity for the Associate Producer to have a leadership role on one to two episodes depending on the individual’s experience. With these episodes the Associate Producer will be responsible for providing the other deliverables for their episode most notably the digital assets and radio spots.

This is a role for someone who is eager to learn and get hands on experience, but also interested in telling a visually captivating story of history in the local area. It is paramount that they are comfortable with collaboration but also able to take direction.

Duties and Responsibilities of Chronicles Associate Producer

  • The Associate Producer will help coordinate with episode resources – writers, researchers, journalists, museum curators and other producers.
  • The Associate Producer will help make sure that paperwork for the show in general – i.e. talent release forms, call sheets, etc. – are in order.
  • The Associate Producer will familiarize themselves with the organizational software (Asana) to help ensure that work is staying on task.
  • The Associate Producer will familiarize themselves with the post-production workflow with respects to copying media off the cards onto the server into the proper folder with the proper name.
  • The Associate Producer will assemble edits and ideally will have some experience with NLE systems - preferably Adobe Premiere and/or DaVinci Resolve.
  • The Associate Producer will produce an episode – possibly two – with guidance from Executive and Series Producer.
  • The Associate Producer will conduct interviews with on-air talent and be well versed with the subject they are documenting for the episode(s) they are taking a leadership role on.
  • The Associate Producer will help manage the general production and delivery of their episode within the budget allotted for that episode. .
  • The Associate Producer will oversee the post-production – editing, graphics, audio, music, broadcast compliance – of their episodes including digital assets and for radio deliverables.
  • The Associate Producer will begin to learn some fundamentals of camera.
  • The Associate Producer will assist the freelance teams and serve as an additional resource at times when Executive Producer and Series Producer are unavailable.
  • The Associate Producer will help coordinate with interns and volunteers.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Live in or around Erie County area
  • Have sufficient means to get to work
  • A sample of writing required
  • A sample of prior video/producing/camera experience preferred
  • Experience editing video and basic understanding of post-production workflow
  • A desire to learn
  • An upbeat personality

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to problem solve
  • The ability to listen and learn quickly
  • Some video experience required
  • An understanding and deep appreciation for organizations
  • Strong writing skills
  • Capable of communicating effectively, both orally and in writing

Families Turn On to Literacy Facilitator (Part-time, per diem)

Pay: $300/Workshop

Families Turn On to Literacy is a curriculum-based literacy program that combines our beloved PBS Kids programming, great literature and hands-on activities to show parents and their K-2 children how learning at home is fun!
About Our Workshops:
  • Three-week workshops are held one night a week, two hours each evening
  • Held at schools within our region
  • Two facilitators work together as a team in the same classroom
  • Entire format of workshop is PACT (Parent and Child Together)
  • All materials are packed and organized for you
  • Lesson plan is already prepared
Tasks:
  • Facilitate fun and engaging workshops to show parents how to support their child’s educational development in the home
  • Develop new programs to improve student outcomes
  • Project changes and improvements for programs
  • Evaluate effectiveness of current program and training materials

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field is the minimum degree training required to perform this position. Pennsylvania teaching certification preferred, but not always required.

Minimum of 2-5 years teaching experience at the elementary, middle, or high school level or the equivalent experience in a training or public speaking capacity is needed to qualify for the position.
