Sounds Around Town

WQLN’s Sounds Around Town series of free concerts and TV & radio broadcasts, launched in 2014, will return for its fifth year, with five free Friday evening concerts, July 6 to August 3, outdoors at WQLN, 8425 Peach St., Erie, (indoors in case of inclement weather), featuring all local bands.

Each year, over 1,000 music lovers of all ages enjoy WQLN’s Sounds Around Town free concerts in the picturesque setting of WQLN’s wooded pavilion. The public is once again invited and encouraged to bring their picnic blankets and festival chairs for five family-friendly evenings of local entertainment.

Free samples of beer, coffee, and Smith's products, courtesy of Erie Beer Company, Mill Creek Coffee Company, and Smith's Provisions will also be available.

As an added bonus, you'll get a peek at the behind-the-scenes operation of WQLN-TV and Radio production. We'll record the concerts live and air them on WQLN TV on Thursday nights this summer and on WQLN Radio throughout the coming year.

Showtime for each 60- to 90-minute concert is 7:00pm
WQLN Television & Radio production will begin at 6:00pm, and guests are invited to come early.

The Bootlegger's Bible Club

The Bootlegger’s Bible Club is a three piece band from Erie, Pennsylvania, influenced by America’s rust belt and the people who work there – and of course America’s musical pioneers. Whether bluegrass, gospel, blues, country, or folk, they know how to have a honky-tonkin’ boot-stompin’ good time.

Eric Brewer & Friends

Eric Brewer & Friends together have developed a remarkable onstage rapport, propelling the band’s improvisational element to extraordinary heights. The band draws influence from mixing a blend of rock, jazz, funk, and fusion to create their unique jam band style. They are well known in the jam band circuit and have played various festivals in the Erie region, including high profile gigs at 8 Great Tuesdays and Celebrate Erie.

Matt Bennett Blues Band

The Matt Bennett Blues Band is a highly energetic ensemble that covers the best of blues, ranging from the Delta to Chicago. They play the songs you didn’t know that you knew. Along with these blues standards, they play other familiar rock hits and originals by their frontman Matt Bennett.

Falling Hollywood

Falling Hollywood is a four piece band from Erie, Pennsylvania, playing an infectious punky brand of Rust Belt folk rock. Their shows are known for going from foot stomping dance tunes to wall shaking alternative rock ‘n roll.

This American Song

This American Song is a six piece rock ‘n roll band. They have been performing at clubs in the Erie region since 2012 and are known for their unique songs and their energetic live performances. They mix a modern garage rock sound with pop psychedelic jams.

Six Year Stretch is an alternative/pop rock band from Erie, PA., focusing on writing music with infectious melodies and tight harmonies that is bound to get stuck in your head! SYS consists of brothers Andy, Adam and Alex Brown, along with Mike Wolfe.

Matt "Broke" Boland

Broke Boland is a one man band act from Erie, Pennsylvania. His drummer is his left foot, and his percussion section is his right foot. Broke Boland mixes folk, gypsy, Americana, and punk into his own exciting one man band show!

Mountain Thyme Ramblers

Mountain Thyme Ramblers is a five piece bluegrass band with a touch of Irish music. Band members include Mike Berry (banjo), Dan Aldrich (dobro), Craig Pieper (mandolin & vocals), Randy Bowers (guitar & vocals), and Brad Kamaromy (upright bass).

The Mighty Sea

The Mighty Sea is an alternative acoustic duo with guitar, viola and powerful yet vulnerable vocal stylings that makes for a hauntingly emotive sound.

Joe Dorris & Friends

Beloved Erie jazz vocalist & multi-instrumentalist Joe Dorris and special guests will recreate the experience of Norman Granz’s popular 1940s-1980s "Jazz at the Philharmonic" concerts.

Liquid Nixon

Liquid Nixon’s sound is a culmination of old school sound with modern sensibility... or is it old school sensibility with modern sound. Who cares? It’s Jazzy, funky rock that we enjoy writing & playing!

Salmon Frank

Salmon Frank is a high energy, fun-oriented band that plays some of the finest venues in the NW Pennsylvania, NE Ohio and SW New York region. Line up ranges from 3 piece acoustic to 6 piece party band!

Tiger Maple String Band

Tiger Maple String Band is an energetic collection of talented musicians dedicated to continuing traditional and original old-time music.

Daybreak Radio

No-frills rockers Daybreak Radio specialize in melding Americana, Southern roots-rock, and elements of garage rock.

Tyler Smilo, 2014 winner of the Rock Erie Music Award for Best Acoustic Act, will bring original songs that cut to the core of the human experience.
