Great Teachers Contest
Making a Difference
Every year, WQLN is pleased to receive essays from local high school seniors.  Students write essays to nominate teachers who have impacted their lives.  The entries are required to be typed essays from high school students about their teachers.  Every year WQLN receives many heartwarming and inspirational essays about the teachers who help to make a difference in the educational community.

WQLN also works to engage the entire community in this initiative  by recruiting judges from many different organizations.  After the essays are received, ten judges are selected from the community to read each and every essay.  The judges are given a scoring rebric to judge for content, grammar, creativity and focus.  Once all the judge's scores are compiled together, three winners are selected.

Each winner is awarded a $500 scholarship for their essay and nomination of their "Great Teacher".  Each student and teach pair is then able to have their story filmed at their school.  An interstitial then runs on WQLN showcasing their accomplishments to the community.  The winning students are presented with their scholarship while the teachers are presented with awards from WQLN and the contest's sponsor Highmark.

Due to the recent loss of our funding source, we have cancelled this event for this year.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
