Get Ready, Get Set, and Learn!
Remember, learning does not have to take place in a classroom. It can happen right in your very own home!

Recognizing our commitment to children's education, Ready, Set, Learn airs every Friday morning during Good Morning Erie on WJET-TV 24.

This Week's Lesson

This Ready Set Learn activity offers a tasty way to gets kids excited about science. That's right, we're making ice cream! Making ice cream can be both tasty and educational with sweet results. Ever since the popular treat was first created (supposedly by Roman emperor Nero), kids and adults alike can't seem to get enough. So have fun exploring the science of ice cream together. Let's rock & roll!

First you put some ingredients for homemade ice cream in a small coffee can (milk, sugar, etc) and place it inside a large coffee can filled with rock salt and ice before getting the kids to roll it into a delicious ice cream treat. The kids will have fun with science as they are rolling the coffee can back and forth to create a heat transfer that causes the rock salt to melt the ice inside the large can. That in turn makes the cream freeze. And of course you end up with a tasty treat!

  • Small empty coffee can
