54 Suite Melody in Earth Tones by Brad Lethaby 2010 Artist: Brad Lethaby

Brad Lethaby sees the world as if it were a symphony. Every piece he paints is an integral part to a universal, yet unfinished score—never ending, and constantly unfolding. To Brad the world is a beautiful piece of music. Brad's passion for artistic harmony is the inspiration for this year's 54 Suite limited edition print "Melody in Earth Tones."

"Melody in Earth Tones" was inspired by Tchaikovsky and emotes the hues and textures of his native Votkinsk. It's a piece Brad was inspired to paint from a visit to the Lake Erie Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker. Brad was commissioned by the Lake Erie Ballet and spent significant amounts of time at their performances. At one performance, the violinist caught Brad's eye and from that one glimpse came "Melody in Earth Tones."

"My paintings revolve around my life, as my life revolves around my painting," says Lethaby. "They are my passion and my spiritual connection to nature and creation. Each new painting is special...from the exciting discovery of a new subject through decisions about surface, composition, drawing, color, and paint application. The process is a journey of learning through enjoyment and turmoil, action and reaction, success and failure, and spontaneity and fear."
